Ed Jones
Minister
Ed longs to see people get to know Jesus and follow him, being filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered to live out their lives as disciples wherever they find themselves. He loves sharing from God’s word, he also serves as Chaplain to Battle Town Football Club. Married to Emma who serves alongside him in the church, they have 3 children, Ewan, Evie and Ella. Ed loves watching movies with the family, making things out of wood in his workshop and his favourite food is rice!

Emma
Emma Jones
Associate Minister
Emma moved to Battle in 2016 with Ed and their three children.  She has been part of the church family at Battle Baptist since then.  In 2021 Emma was called as a Minister in Training to BBC and, alongside her studies, works in a part-time capacity.  In her role she leads in various elements of church life from a midweek service to Renew 1066 wellbeing space in Battle.  Emma has a passion for discipleship and connecting with other Christians through small groups and on a one- to- one basis. She loves to wind down with a cuppa and piece of cake, perhaps starting a new crochet project or trying to finish a jigsaw puzzle  She enjoys board games, being in God's creation and holidaying in Cornwall!

  Jo
Jo Reeves
Administrator
Jo has been BBC’s Church Administrator since March 2019 and is responsible for Safeguarding, Health & Safety, GDPR and – perhaps most important of all – ensuring that there are enough biscuits to go round.  Jo used to be an English teacher and she still enjoys working as a volunteer with the children and young people who come to the church.  Outside of work, she loves spending time with family and friends.  I am very interested in politics, and I love reading, singing and Radio 4.

He loves cheese on toast and coffee (sometimes together), but hates celery.

Caroline Dyer
Children and Youth (Part time)
Caroline is one of the youth and children workers at BBC. Working part-time, she loves helping the children and young people get to know Jesus for themselves. Caroline also always has great Monday mornings running the toddler group! She is married to Andy, and they have three young adult children, in various stages of left home, only just left home, and at home. When not at work, Caroline loves all sorts of handicrafts, walking their bouncy labradoodle on the beach and trying to tame their garden.

Renew Development Worker

Catherine Watson
Renew Development Worker
Catherine moved to East Sussex in 2005 and lives in Sedlescombe with Richard and her two children.   Catherine has been a member of Battle Baptist church for a number of years; in 2023 she joined the staff team in a part time role as a Development Worker.  In this role she supports the Renew 1066 wellbeing drop-ins and exploring opportunities for them to grow.  Catherine enjoys this kind of catalyst roles where she is able to respond to changing opportunities and needs with God directing the next steps.

Catherine loves it when she gets to join the groups and the opportunity this provides to meet new people and hear their stories, join in the games or help just to find where one jigsaw piece goes, but then getting hooked!  She values her daily walks with Ralph, her dog, providing a daily connection to Gods creation throughout all the seasons.

Planning your Visit

Hi there!

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you have an idea of what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Gathering, which starts at 10:00am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get to find somewhere to sit before the gathering begins. Unfortunately on-site parking is very limited, and reserved for those with mobility issues. There is a large Council Car-Park very near by on the opposite side of Mount Street.
When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome lanyard.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a fully accessible toilet in the main foyer.

Our Morning Gathering

The morning gathering begins at 10am.  Then follows a time of sung worship, led by one of our bands. We typically have 1 song, a few family matters or notices, before the children and youth head to age appropriate activities. We then usually 2 or 3 songs lasting approximately 15 minutes. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. One of the ministers or the preaching team will then give a talk that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with another song or two. There is also the opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my kids?

Children join us for the beginning of the gathering, as we really value worshipping God all together as a family.  There is a table with a craft or colouring activity for them to enjoy before they head out to their own 'Sunday Club'.  All of our leaders have been DBS checked and trained to at least Level 2 in Safeguarding.  We ask you to accompany your children to Sunday Club and register them as part of our child safety policy.   During Sunday Club, the kids enjoy a range of activities including Bible stories, singing and dancing, games, craft, prayer and free play.

Please pick your children up as soon as the gathering finishes.

For teenagers, we offer separate activities on three Sundays out of every four.
